Heidegger struggled over a long period of years with the problem of formalizing his basic experience of the forgottenness of Being in such a way that the materials of this experience could be rendered suitable for research into the meaning (or 'sense") of Being itself. In other words, he struggled with the problem of reducing or converting his primal intuitions into a status quaestionis.
